My mojo it don't work too good these days
That hoodoo man got his voodoo spell on me
Instead of dancing with the girl I love
I find myself dancing with Mr. D
And all I ever learned
Is the blues is hard to lose

I went to see the gypsy late last night
She'd eyes as black as coal and pale white skin
She looked into her ball and shook her head
Said, 'Son, there ain't no way that you can win.'
And all I ever learned
Is the blues is hard to lose

Gonna take my black cat bone on into town
Bury it at the crossroads as midnight chimes
Those seven hundred dollars are long gone
All I got left now's nickels and dimes
And all I ever learned
Is the blues is hard to lose

11. The Blues Is Hard To Lose
(McGowan) Here's another one where I can hear 100 influences: Lightnin' Slims 'Hoo Doo Man'; The Stones 'Dancing with Mr. D and 'Fortune Teller''; Robert Johnson's 'Crossroads'; Muddy Waters' 'I'm A Man'. Somehow I cobbled it all together into something I could call my own. Great bass from Mark - but he couldn't play the piano at the end and I was forced into using my finger - both to reprimand him and to play. -- Davy

Davy makes blues to fit with his bossa novish sound so easy. It sounds like it was meant to be this way! (bad joke). Great! -- Jore
